brooklyn farms

Diary of a rooftop garden that dreams of growing into an urban farm.

Great plants from Union Square Greenmarket today.

Went to the farmers market this morning to try to fill some empty pots on the roof. Was thrilled to see the nice folks of Silver Heights Farm were there. Got a couple of peppers that I hadn’t heard of before – pasillo bajio, and tequila sunrise – and a lime green salad tomato that says it’s ideal for containers. I had planned to skip tomatos on the roof this year since they all broke in the wind last year, but I’ve decided to make a couple execeptions. Also got a couple of melons – Emerald Gem and Tigger – which the seller told me would tolerate heat well as long as I don’t let the fruits lay on a hot surface. So I’ll start hoarding plastic takeout cups to rest the fruits on.
