Diary of a rooftop garden that dreams of growing into an urban farm.

All organic, no recipe.

rooftop soil mixing stationMixing soil for the past couple of garden days. I scooped out the remaining soil from last year and screened it to sift out roots and sticks. Added a variety of amendments: compost from NYC Sanitation givebacks, store bought compost, cow and poultry manures, multi-mineral organic fertilizer, greensand, and ProMix. It felt like mixing a cake without a spatula.

The structure of the soil from last year seemed good. It had compacted but roots had penetrated deeply in many containers.
